How it is calculated

Shifted up by two semitones, Am F C G become Bm G D A. The tool moves every chord in your text by the same number of semitones and leaves the lyrics alone.

How it works

Transposing means moving every note by the same interval. The tool recognizes the root of each chord, shifts it by the chosen semitones and keeps suffixes such as m, 7, maj7, sus4 or dim. With slash chords like D/F♯ the bass note moves too. The spaces between chords are adjusted so that chords stay above their syllables. Choose German notation if you know H and B for B♭, or international notation, where B is the note above A♯.

Frequently asked questions

How do I transpose chords?

Every chord is moved by the same number of semitones. From C to D that is two semitones: C becomes D, G becomes A, Am becomes Bm.

What is the difference between H and B?

In German notation H is the note B and B is B♭. In international notation the note is simply B. Choose the notation of your song in the tool.

Which chords does the tool recognize?

Major, minor, seventh, sus and dim chords with extensions, also slash chords like D/F♯. They must be on a chord line or in square brackets.

Why can I choose sharps or flats?

Depending on the key one writes A♯ or B♭. On Automatic the tool follows your text, but you can force sharps or flats.
