Key dates in 2026
Passover begins on the evening before Thursday, 2 April 2026. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, falls on Saturday, 12 September 2026, Yom Kippur on Monday, 21 September 2026. The first Hanukkah candle is lit on the evening before Saturday, 5 December 2026.
How the dates are calculated
The Jewish calendar is a lunisolar calendar with fixed rules (molad, postponement rules, leap month Adar I). The dates come from the Hebrew calendar of the ICU library, which browsers use as well. Yom HaShoah and Yom HaAtzmaut are moved in Israel when they would clash with Shabbat; Tisha B’Av moves from Shabbat to Sunday. All dates match Hebcal.
Limits
Every holiday begins at sundown the evening before – the table shows the first full day. Congregations may follow local customs; ask your congregation for service times.
