Nm to ft lbs: torque converter
This Nm to ft lbs converter turns newton metres into pound-feet, kgf·m and other torque units. Enter a value, pick the units and read the result at once, plus every other unit and a chart of common wrench settings.
Example: Torque 100 · From unit: N·m (newton metre) · To unit: lbf·ft (pound-feet) → Result: 100 N·m = 73.7562 lbf·ft. Source: NIST SP 811 – Guide for the Use of the International System of Units, Anhang B (Umrechnungsfaktoren). Updated: .
How it is calculated
100 Nm equal 73.76 ft lbs (lbf·ft) or 10.2 kgf·m. The converter turns any torque into nine units and shows all results at once.
How it is calculated
Every unit has a fixed factor to the newton metre: 1 lbf·ft is 1.3558 Nm, 1 lbf·in is 0.11298 Nm, 1 kgf·m is 9.80665 Nm and 1 ozf·in is 0.00706 Nm. The tool multiplies your value by the factor of the starting unit and divides by the factor of the target unit. The factors come from the unit guide NIST SP 811.
If you also enter a speed, the tool works out the power: P = M · 2π · n / 60. 200 Nm at 3000 rpm is 62.8 kW or 84 hp.
Where it helps
- US torque wrenches are usually marked in lbf·ft or lbf·in while workshop manuals use Nm.
- Older manuals quote kgf·m or kgf·cm.
- Small electric motors and servos often list torque in N·cm or ozf·in.

Frequently asked questions
How many ft lbs is 100 Nm?
100 Nm is 73.76 lbf·ft. As a rule of thumb divide Nm by 1.356 or multiply by 0.7376.
How do I convert Nm to kgf·m?
Divide the newton metres by 9.80665. So 100 Nm is 10.2 kgf·m.
What is the difference between lbf·ft and lbf·in?
A foot has twelve inches, so 1 lbf·ft equals 12 lbf·in. Small fasteners are usually specified in lbf·in.
How do I get power from torque and rpm?
Power in watts equals torque in Nm times 2π times rpm divided by 60. Enter the speed and the tool shows kW and horsepower.
Can I tighten a bolt with the converted value?
Yes, if the manufacturer value is right. The conversion is exact, but whether 100 Nm suits your bolt is only in the vehicle or part manual.
