How it is calculated
How the mental math trainer works
- Choose the level, operation and round.
- After “Start” the first problem appears. Type the answer and confirm with Enter or “OK” – the next problem follows immediately.
- 60 seconds: as many correct answers as possible. 20 problems: the clock runs until all are answered.
- At the end you see your accuracy, the average time per problem and a list of mistakes with the correct answers.
The four levels
- Level 1: addition and subtraction up to 20, multiplication up to 5 × 10.
- Level 2: addition and subtraction up to 100, times tables 2 to 10.
- Level 3: addition and subtraction up to 1,000, two-digit times one-digit.
- Level 4: addition and subtraction up to 10,000, two-digit times two-digit.
Subtraction never gives a negative result and division always comes out even – each division problem is a multiplication in reverse. Problems are drawn with the browser’s random generator, and the same problem never appears twice in a row.
Best scores
For each combination of level, operation and round the trainer remembers your best: in the 60-second round the most correct answers, with 20 problems the fastest error-free time. It is stored only in your browser. A round you stop early does not count.
Limits
The levels are this tool’s own design and do not follow a specific curriculum. Levels 1 and 2 roughly suit primary school; levels 3 and 4 are practice for teenagers and adults.
Frequently asked questions
How can I get better at mental math?
Short and regular practice works well: one 60-second round a day at a suitable level. The mistake list shows which problems still trip you up – repeat exactly those.
Are there negative results or remainders?
No. Subtraction always gives zero or more and division always works out evenly, so it stays pure mental arithmetic without special cases.
Which level suits primary school?
Level 1 covers numbers up to 20, level 2 numbers up to 100 plus the times tables. The levels are this tool’s own design, not a curriculum.
Is my result saved?
Only the best score per setting, and only in this browser. “Clear best scores” removes them again.
Can I practice without a mouse?
Yes. After starting, the cursor is in the answer field: type the number, press Enter, next problem. On phones the number keypad appears.
