How the lists on this website were made (scripts/build-wordlist.mjs, language "pt-br"):

Word finder (<length>.txt), 116,564 word forms:
  - dictionary stems plus all suffix (SFX) forms of pt_BR.aff: plural, gender,
    diminutives/augmentatives, adverbs in -mente and verb conjugations; no prefix
    (PFX) forms. The full expansion is needed because VERO lists common nouns such
    as "casa" or "livro" only as forms of the verbs casar/livrar.
  - verb fragments that only occur before a hyphenated pronoun are left out
    (amá-lo -> "amá", pô-lo -> "pô", amamo-nos -> "amamo")
  - only forms written entirely in lower case (a-z plus á à â ã é ê í ó ô õ ú ü ç):
    removes proper nouns, place names, abbreviations, acronyms and hyphenated words
  - 2-20 letters
  - entries flagged NOSUGGEST (Ý, includes vulgar words) or FORBIDDENWORD (ý) are removed
  - accents are kept for display; the search compares letters without accents (ç = c)
  - frequency filter (since 2026-09-27): only forms that occur in the wordfreq 3.1.1
    frequency list for Portuguese (Zipf >= 1, see README_wordfreq.txt). VERO has about
    244,000 stems, 212,000 of them never occur there (technical terms such as
    difenilsulfona); without the filter the list had 2,091,120 forms (27 MB).

Termo/Wordle helper (wordle.txt), 2,207 entries = 2,178 distinct words A-Z:
  - same forms as above, but derived forms ending in -s are left out (generated
    plurals and verb forms for tu/nós), dictionary stems are kept
  - accents removed and ç written as C, exactly 5 letters A-Z (as in the game Termo:
    "os acentos são preenchidos automaticamente, e não são considerados nas dicas",
    https://term.ooo/, checked 2026-09-27)
  - only common words: Zipf >= 3 in wordfreq (about once per million words), so that the
    recommended start words are not rare forms (MIRÃO, LIRÃO)
  - no list of daily answers of any game is used

The lists are modified works of the VERO dictionary combined with the wordfreq data
(CC BY-SA 4.0) and are therefore distributed under the GNU General Public License version 3
or later (COPYING-GPL-3.0.txt; LGPLv3 allows conveying under the GPLv3).
