How the lists on this website were made (scripts/build-wordlist.mjs, language "nl"):

Word finder (<length>.txt), 111,979 word forms:
  - dictionary entries plus all suffix (SFX) forms of nl_NL.aff (plural, diminutive,
    verb forms, inflected adjectives); continuation classes one level deep; no prefix
    (PFX) forms and no compounds built by Hunspell (only compounds listed in the
    dictionary). Without the frequency filter this gives 255,449 forms.
  - the ligature ij used in the dictionary is written as the two letters i + j
  - entries flagged FORBIDDENWORD (Fw), NOSUGGEST (NS), WARN (Wn), FORCEUCASE (Fu) or
    ONLYINCOMPOUND (Cx) are removed, as are forms that only occur inside compounds
  - only forms written entirely in lower case (a-z plus ä ë ï ö ü á é í ó ú à è ì ò ù â ê î ô û ç):
    removes proper nouns, abbreviations, forms with apostrophe, hyphen, digit or dot
  - 2-20 letters, at least one vowel
  - frequency filter: only forms that occur in the wordfreq 3.1.1 frequency list for
    Dutch (Zipf >= 1, see README_wordfreq.txt)
  - accents are kept for display; the search compares letters without accents

Wordle helper (wordle.txt), 1,976 entries = 1,973 distinct words A-Z:
  - same forms as above with exactly 5 letters after removing accents; IJ counts as two
    letters (LIJST, IJZER)
  - only common words: Zipf >= 3 in wordfreq (about once per million words)
  - spelling as in Woordle (https://woordle.nl/, checked 2026-09-28): its keyboard has only
    the keys a-z (rows "qwertyuiop", "asdfghjkl", "zxcvbnm", no IJ key), and its word lists
    (https://github.com/pingiun/woordle, data/puzzle-words) contain five-letter words such as
    "lijst" and "ijzer", i.e. IJ fills two squares
  - no list of daily answers of any game is used

The lists are modified works of the OpenTaal dictionary combined with the wordfreq data
(CC BY-SA 4.0) and are distributed under the GNU General Public License version 3 or later
(COPYING-GPL-3.0.txt). The OpenTaal licence notice (LICENSE-OpenTaal.txt) is kept.
