Licence:   The extension is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL), version 3
           (README_it_IT.txt, full text at its end and in COPYING-GPL-3.0.txt). The original
           "Dizionario italiano" allows "version 3 of the License, or (at your option) any later
           version" (legacy-it_IT_license.txt).

How the lists on this website were made (scripts/build-wordlist.mjs, language "it"):

Word finder (<length>.txt), 130,817 word forms:
  - dictionary entries plus all suffix (SFX) forms of it_IT.aff: plural, gender, verb
    conjugations, -mente, -issimo, diminutives; continuation classes one level deep.
    Without the frequency filter this gives 939,072 forms.
  - no prefix (PFX) forms: these are the elided forms with apostrophe (l'amico, dell'anno)
  - no enclitic forms generated by the affix file (amarlo, parlarne, portatecelo): a rule
    whose ending is "x + pronoun" is left out when the same class also forms "x + lo" and
    "x + la". Forms listed as separate dictionary entries (dammi, dimmi, fallo) are kept.
  - no Roman numerals (flag £: ii, iv, xiv)
  - only forms written entirely in lower case (a-z plus à á è é ì í ò ó ù ú): removes proper
    nouns, abbreviations with capitals, forms with apostrophe, hyphen, digit or dot
  - 2-20 letters, at least one vowel (removes abbreviations such as "cm")
  - hand-picked exclusions: country names listed in lower case (cipro, libia, nepal, nigeria,
    vietnam, etiopia, eritrea, micronesia, mongolia, india) and slurs (frocio, negro and their
    inflected forms, ricchione, culattone)
  - frequency filter: only forms that occur in the wordfreq 3.1.1 frequency list for
    Italian (Zipf >= 1, see README_wordfreq.txt)
  - accents are kept for display; the search compares letters without accents

Wordle helper (wordle.txt), 2,392 entries = 2,351 distinct words A-Z:
  - same forms as above with exactly 5 letters after removing accents (città = CITTA)
  - only common words: Zipf >= 3 in wordfreq (about once per million words)
  - spelling as in the Italian Wordle "Par(IT)le" (https://pietroppeter.github.io/wordle-it/,
    checked 2026-09-28): its keyboard has only the letters A-Z, and its word list writes
    accented words without accents (citta, caffe, pieta, virtu)
  - no list of daily answers of any game is used

The lists are modified works of the it_IT dictionary combined with the wordfreq data
(CC BY-SA 4.0) and are distributed under the GNU General Public License version 3
(COPYING-GPL-3.0.txt).
